How to copy/merge several Wikis into a single Wiki/Community

CAT Features

Problem Description

Problem 1: Multiple Wikis need to be merged into a single one.

Problem 2: One or more Wikis need to be moved into a Community

Solution with HCL Conmnections provided tools

HCL Connections does not provide any tools for moving / merging / copying Wikis. You need to write your own code that either modifies the relevant tables of the WIKIS database directly, or which uses the REST API to create the new Wiki.

Solution with Connections Administration Toolkit (CAT)

Navigate to Content And Access – Wikis. There, you can create a list which contains all Wikis that are part of the merge / copy operation

Problem 2: To move a wiki into a community, you first need to activate the Wikis widget in the community. The widget is activated by selecting the widget in the Connections UI when customizing the community. This action can be performed by any Community owner. To perform the action yourself, simply add yourself to the community as owner with the help of CAT (done in Content And Access – Communities).

Adding the Wikis widget will automatically create a wiki with the title of the community. In the example, “EXTERNAL COMMUNITY” is a community wiki. Then, you can proceed with merging the wikis like in Problem 1.

Problem 1: Select all wikis you wish to copy or merge. For merging, the wiki you want to merge into needs to be selected, too.

After you have configured the wiki to your preferences, a confirmation popup summarizes the changes and allows you to enter a comment. All changes, comments, and who made them, are logged by the CAT application.

The copying process takes place in the background to avoid blocking the CAT application when copying large wikis. Have a look at the copying status above the result list buttons
